Thoughts on ‘Deterrence’

IF “deterrence” is such a good thing (as federal judges are wont to say these days)…

IF it’s effect is to improve society (even if occasional injustices occur, or if an occasional sentence is too harsh, or if an incarceration occurs which is not necessitated by justice, or …..)

THEN,

knowing that the ranks of federal prosecutors and fed. judges and DOJ bureaucracy contains SOME bad actors (apples, corruption, etc)-

it WOULD BE GOOD, to go after the most likely candidates and subject them to disciplinary actions, judicial reviews and occasionally, impeachment.

The result, AFTER ALL, would be to elevate the entire institution by culling the ranks of incompetence, ineptitude and callousness toward society and THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE OF INNOCENCE UNTIL GUILT IS PROVEN (not plea deals coerced by overcharging and threatening innocents, etc).

WE MUST SEEK TO HAVE GOV’T BY PUBLIC SERVANTS AND NOT BY PETTY TYRANTS!
